Barbados: Pelican Village

Opened in 1999, Pelican Village is an attractive, spacious shopping village offering the very best of local handicrafts, and providing the opportunity to see Barbados' craftsmen at work.

Located on the outskirts of the capital city of Bridgetown, Pelican Village is the first stop for cruise visitors as they disembark at the Harbour.

With ample parking and within easy reach of the west and south coasts, long stay visitors should also plan a trip to the Village.

Pelican Village is named after Pelican Island, a small island which existed off Barbados before being incorporated into the Deep Water Harbour.

Along with the shops and restaurants, Pelican Village offers amenities such as restrooms and pay phones. There is wheelchair access to the shops.

There are a few benches in the plaza and tropical flowers in full bloom line the walkways.

Just opposite the village is Trevor's Way - a small oasis on the busy street where you can sit on the benches after you finish your shopping, and watch the catamarans sailing by or the fishing boats bringing in their catch to the nearby market.
